PERU, Lima, cob 8 reales Royal (galano), 1686 R, single dot at top, rare, NGC VF details / holed, ex-Portolà, ex-Trastámara. S-L7; KM-R24; Cal-579. 26.46 grams. Broad flan but with rather spread-out design (hence legends mostly off the edge), well centered and very bold all over, no doubling and just one small spot of weakness near edge (in crown), also with drilled hole at top of cross, but with beautiful cabinet toning all over, clearly a premium piece that has seen time in important collections, no pillars-side die-match but cross side matches Lázaro 2 (rarity R2). Pedigreed to the Portolà Collection (Aureo & Calicó auction of December 2019, lot 334) and the Trastámara Collection (Aureo & Calicó auction of December 2017, lot 175), both stated on label.
